HEXIAL Through Static

Through Static ultimately shines for many reasons, perhaps most of all because it feels both intimate in experience and expansive in depth without alienating the listener. It is an IDM album built for headphone immersion...

Hexial’s Through Static arrives with the confidence of an artist who has put great effort into refining both sound design and emotional intent. Written through two years of quiet rebuilding, the album sits at the intersection of softly glitch textured IDM, cinematic ambience, and organic instrumentation. The album immediately reveals a strong and deliberate artistic vision. Every piece feels sculpted with purpose and built to carry feeling, from the gentle tension of its pads to the microscopic edits that give the rhythms their nervous pulse. The influence of acts like Plaid and Aphex Twin is clear, yet this record is not at all a derivative work. Instead, it presents a deeply personal interpretation of the IDM language, filtered through introspection and meticulous craft.

The album unfolds through ten distinct pieces that move confidently across a wide range of mood and momentum. Early moments lean into the softer corners of IDM where melody and restraint set the tone. Strings, piano, and ghostly synth choirs drift through the mix while crisp rhythmic structures take shape around them. Even at its most energetic, the music keeps its emotional core intact. Pieces like Mnelk and Last Signal show an instinctive control over movement and tension, balancing grit with a quiet cinematic glow. Other moments explore abstraction and texture with ambient passages that evoke fractured memories and strange dimensional spaces. This blend of structure and atmosphere gives the collection its gravitational pull.

The organic elements carry a special weight throughout the record. Human breath, soft vocal pads, and subtle strings based lines add warmth to the digital architecture, creating a dialogue between machine and body, where the organic and artificial coexist in harmony. Hexial proves especially skilled at building rhythm in a way that feels alive. IDM percussion often risks becoming a showcase of technicality over feeling, but here the drums serve as emotional punctuation. They are playful in some moments, hesitant in others, and forceful exactly when needed. This sense of musical intention gives each piece momentum and presence.

Through Static ultimately shines for many reasons, perhaps most of all because it feels both intimate in experience and expansive in depth without alienating the listener. It is an IDM album built for headphone immersion, yet it also has a clear sense of storytelling and space. For a relatively new artist, this level of control over mood, sound design, and pacing is remarkable. Hexial emerges as one of the most promising new voices in the current IDM scene, offering a record that blends nostalgia, curiosity, and forward motion into something vivid, original and fully alive.
