Kitbuilders return States-Side with Stupid Games on EC Underground, a twelve-track collection that is a visceral reminder of why they remain titans of the German electronic underground. The album drips with a smooth and hyper-cool bad attitude feel, expertly threading the needle between aggressive Electropunk and the shadowed corners of dark Synth-Pop. From the opening moments, the production establishes a gritty, analog landscape where jagged frequencies and driving rhythms collide, creating an atmosphere that is retro-futuristic and dangerously immediate.

The undeniable heart of this record is Cordula Schütten’s vocal performance. Channelling that bad-girl punky aesthetic, Ripley delivers every line with a sneer and a surge of palpable attitude. Her voice acts as the perfect foil to the mechanical precision of the synthesizers, injecting a raw, human volatility into the digital architecture skillfully woven by Benway. This vocal persona turns the album’s lyrical content (which leans heavily into the bizarre and the foreboding) into a series of dark, captivating vignettes that raise the gooseflesh, sounding like warnings from a dystopian street corner.

Structurally, the album maintains a relentless momentum across its first eleven chapters, building a cohesive world of sci-fi grit and underground club energy. It is a delight for long-time fans who crave the band’s signature “twisted” sound, as it refuses to compromise its harsh edges for commercial appeal. The record burbles a singular statement of intent, leaning into the discomfort of its themes while expertly keeping the listener’s feet tethered to the dance floor through hypnotic, driving basslines.

The journey concludes with a twelfth and final track that brings the album full circle. This closing movement is a remix of the very first track, reimagined by Bausatz Beats. By stripping down and re-shaping the introductory theme, the remix provides a rhythmic, deconstructed bookend to the experience. It allows the listener to revisit the album’s starting point through a different lens, cementing the record’s status as a well-rounded, thoughtfully curated piece of electronic art that is wickedly satisfying. Massive kudos to the crew at EC Underground for importing Kitbuilders to the USA; they’ve delivered an absolute masterclass in their brand of electro synth-pop punky goodness that we desperately needed on this side of the Atlantic.

Stupid Games by Kitbuilders is available now for pre-order at EC Underground, releasing on 14th February, 2026
